As a young girl (too many decades ago!) I would sit and watch my dad work in his woodshop. Sawdust flew, saws sang and nails were driven. In the end a beautiful piece of furniture would be standing, eager to be moved to its place of honor in our family’s home. The furniture creating bug hit me then and I studied to learn the art of woodworking. My first client was myself and my husband, quite possibly because my free labor fit our price point. With a vote of confidence, or more likely the empty pockets of a young couple, I built all of the furniture in our home. And thus began my career. For years my woods of choice were American native woods like maple, cherry, ash, walnut and oak, always trying to insure these woods came from sustainable tree farms.

But then a few years ago I discovered the beauty of centuries old woods, woods from old barns and other structures, carefully dismantled and properly kiln dried. These old growth woods are bursting with history and character; they tell a story young woods can’t. Each piece is unique, with gorgeous colors from weathering, nail holes, cracks, knots, varying textures,  live edges and more. These boards and beams are dense, with many rings indicating the long lifespan of the old growth trees these boards were milled from. To bring new life to old wood rather than seeing it tossed without care and sadly ending up in a landfill, is a joyful experience. And think of all the new trees we are saving! But it doesn't stop here – there are also many newer wood pieces headed for landfills that I love to rescue and upcycle into furniture and accessories.

I take great pride in working and give every piece my utmost attention. The satisfaction of each of my customers is the top priority to me. I give my utmost attention to  each and every custom order. I would love to hear from you and learn of your dream project, and then bring it to a reality. Please call or email – I’d be delighted to chat.
